Will You Dress Melanie Trump? See Diane Von Furstenberg, Marc Jacobs And Other Top Designers’ Response

Written by HF Magazine Staff  |

“Will you dress future First Lady Melanie Trump?” this question seems to be the trending question for U.S fashion designers.

It will be recalled that the fashion industry as a whole predominantly voiced enthusiastic support for Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton throughout the 2016 election. Now that the elections are over, are these designers still showing their allegiance to the democrats or are they willing to change their voices?

Top designers are now faced with the possibility of dressing Melanie Trump instead, something many designers seem to be in conflict about.

Sophie Theallet was the first designer to take a stance on the issue, releasing an open letter announcing she will not dress the future First Lady and urging other designers to follow suit. On the other side of the debate is Tommy Hilfiger, who revealed he would be proud to dress both Melanie and Ivanka Trump.

WWD recently brought more of fashion’s influential voices into the conversation, publishing a piece which posed the question, “Would you dress Melanie Trump?” to nine designers, including Marc Jacobs, Thom Browne, Vera Wang and CFDA president Diane von Furstenberg.

Von Furstenberg remained pretty neutral on the subject, saying, “Donald Trump was elected and he will be our president. Melania deserves the respect of any First Lady before her. Our role as part of the fashion industry is to promote beauty, inclusiveness, diversity. We should each be the best we can be and influence by our example.”

But Marc Jacobs, who was a strong supporter of Hillary didn’t hide his feelings: “I have no interest whatsoever in dressing Melanie Trump. I didn’t even see Sophie Theallet’s letter. Personally, I’d rather put my energy into helping out those who will be hurt by Donald Trump and his supporters.”

There seems to be a divide among these designers and more of them seem to be tending towards “against” rather than “for.”

Tiwa Savage And Her Look At The ELOY 2016

Written by HF Magazine Staff  |

Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage was spotted at the Exquisite Lady of the Year Awards ( ELOY 2016) which held last night Sunday November 27 2016 at the Intercontinental Hotel in Lagos.

For the event, the singer chose a piece from Bridget Awosika’s Spring/Summer 2016 collection. The outfit consisted of a blue chiffon top and matching pleated skirt, accessorised with a silver bracelet and pink heels.

Suffice it to say everything about Tiwa’s look was so wrong. Starting from the outfit which did nothing for her figure, in my opinion, the attire looked drab and was nothing near form fitting. The outfit definitely did nothing for her figure.

Our celebrities need to be enlightened on getting appropriate outfits that flatter them and not jump on anything because it was recommended by a known stylist or from the stable of a popular designer. A Genevieve Nnaji or a Rita Dominique will definitely not step out sporting this look.

It didn’t end at that, it looks like after all these years, Tiwa still hasn’t gotten it right with her choice of powder and foundation. Or probably she just feels she will look better if she uses a shaded lighter than her colour.

Her not-too-well blended make up was literately staring us in the face. Can we blame this mishap on Tiwa or her beauty team (stylist and make-up artiste?)

Whatever it is, we hope Tiwa gets it right on her next outing.

New Trend: Spray-On Nail Polish

Written by HF Magazine Staff  |

spray polish

Good news for manicure lovers. There is a new trend in town. The spray-on nail polish is a modern invention brought to the nail world.

spray polishspray-paint

Here’s how it works: first of all, you apply basecoat, evenly spray the polish about 4 inches from your nails, wait for it to dry, apply the topcoat to seal it in, rinse your nails with soapy water, and magic! Your nails are done in less than five minutes.

Some may argue that what’s the point, as it gets on the skin leaving a mess, but the difference between spray-on nail polish and the glossy version is that it washes off immediately, unlike nail polish that could be around the finger for days if not cleaned off immediately.

Another difference between both products is that the spray on dries off immediately. Plus it’s really easy to take off and it can be applied directly on top of old nail polish.

Lots of ladies are applauding this foolproof at-home manicure trend.

Now to go over the procedure one after the other:

Start by applying a layer of base coat and then letting it dry for a few minutes, next spray the polish. Bear in mind that it will get a little messy.

spray polish

It is advisable to put down a layer of cardboard or old newspaper on the surfaced you are using, since the spray goes everywhere, especially all over your hands. Painting one finger at a time is nearly impossible, so just spray back and forth at random, as you would with any aerosol can, until you have a nice, even coat across all fingers.

Once the nails are completely polished, allow to dry for about five minutes before moving on to apply top coat.

After a few minutes of waiting for the top coat to dry, proceed to the final step which is washing the polish off the hands.

Voila! The finished product looked fabulous! It gives a chrome-like shiny colour and airbrushed finish.

This faster, easier beauty trend is undeniably a lot of fun and the result had a unique finish which feels fresh and modern compared to the typical brush technique.
